Rays Bring Back Johnson

No, not Russ Johnson (even though the Devil is gone) but Dan Johnson. Rays fans can only think of one thing when asked about Dan Johnson and that was the monster home run he hit at Fenway Park off Jonathan Papeldouche late in the 2008 season. Johnson was sold to the Japanese League last year and hit just .215 with 24 homers and 57 RBI last season.

@TRancel brings up a good point – Johnson, Pena, and Aybar all seem to be a bit redundant on the Rays roster. Perhaps the wrist strain that cut short Aybar’s winter league play is more serious or perhaps there is another roster move coming via a trade. Johnson can fill in at first, left field, and platoon at DH if Burrell is not productive against righties. This deal is a major league deal which guarantees Johnson a spot on the 25 man roster and likely reduces Sean Rodriguez’s chances of breaking camp with the team.
