Back on Top!

Marc Topkin brings us the good news that the Rays’ farm system has once again been ranked the best in all of baseball by Baseball America for the third time in four seasons. It is pretty interesting to see the disparity between some rankings; just last week ESPN’s Keith Law ranked Matt Sweeney as his 81st best prospect in the minors but BA says he’s only the 24th best prospect in the Tampa Bay system. I am not as optimistic as Law but I am certainly not as pessimistic as BA.

The overall Top 31 list for the Rays is:

1. Desmond Jennings, OF
2. Jeremy Hellickson, RHP
3. Wade Davis, RHP
4. Matt Moore, LHP
5. Reid Brignac, SS
6. Tim Beckham, SS
7. Alex Colome, RHP
8. Jake McGee, LHP
9. Alex Torres, LHP
10. Nick Barnese, RHP
11. Kyle Lobstein, LHP
12. Luke Bailey, C
13. Joe Cruz, RHP
14. Ty Morrison, OF
15. Fernando Perez, OF
16. Todd Glaesmann, OF
17. Wilking Rodriguez, RHP
18. Shawn O’Malley, SS
19. Jeff Malm, 1b
20. Albert Suarez, RHP
21. Alex Cobb, RHP
22. Cody Rogers, OF
23. David Newmann, LHP
24. Matt Sweeney, 3b
25. Jason McEachern, RHP
26. Frank De los Santos, LHP
27. Aneury Rodriguez, RHP
28. Matt Gorgen, RHP
29. Jake Jefferies, C
30. Kevin James, LHP
31. K.D. Kang, OF

Hopefully the Rays can do something to add some bats to that mix because it is quite heavy in pitching but a team can never have enough pitching.
