Today feels like December 23rd when you “accidentally” open up a Christmas present while playing around the Christmas tree. In this case, you accidentally tear the wrapping paper on that awful present grandma sends every year which is how I feel about these ridiculous Sunday night openers which is made doubly worse this year with the Red Sox and Yankees opening it up. Here’s to a 23 inning 2-1 final where both bullpens are completely taxed for a week.
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve as most teams open up the 2010 season and my family has always had this odd tradition of opening half the presents on Christmas Eve. I guess that is a by-product of a split family as my mom has us over to open presents after Christmas Eve service while we wait until Christmas morning at my house for the kids. I am more excited about this season than I was last year because my fears of a post-season letdown are not around this year and I see a team that looks very hungry for a return to the playoffs. The Rays could not ask for a better start to the season as 27 of their first 39 home games are against teams that finished last season below .500 and the Rays have the 2nd best record at home since the start of the 2008 season. This week sees the Orioles come in for three games and then an all-important series against the Yankees right out of the gate. Let’s get it done!
