Adios, Carlos Pena

Word this morning here in Orlando is that Carlos Pena has reached a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs for $10.0m. Super agent Scott Boras proves once again why he is the master at what he does as he gets Pena nearly the same dollars he earned last season despite the offensive struggles Pena went through last season.

Pena was a pleasure to watch play for this franchise for four seasons and his 2007 season remains one of my favorite things to witness as a fan of this franchise and his always upbeat attitude and smile will be sorely missed. The guy has a passion and energy for the opportunity to play a kids game that few can match. The downside of this situation is because the Rays declined to offer Pena arbitration, the Rays will receive no compensation for Pena’s departure in the form of draft picks.
