Rays Prospects Matrix

There are four well-known prospect pundits in baseball: my Baseball Prospectus colleague Kevin Goldstein, ESPN’s Keith Law, Baseball America, and MinorLeagueBall.com’s John Sickels. The last three have already put out their prospect lists and Goldstein saved one of the best for last and published his review of the Rays this morning.  Now that the four pundits have put out their lists of varying lengths, here is a matrix that shows how each was ranked. The last number is that players average ranking weighed against how many lists they showed up on as they were not penalized for not being ranked.

Reflections on this list:

  • There is almost complete agreement on the top four prospects in this organization with Sickels being the only dissenter favoring McGee over Archer.
  • There is quite a range on the ranking for Brandon Guyer, but a larger one for Robinson Chirinos
  • Poor Tim Beckham – here is hoping that Maddon’s praises last week ring true and Beckham has his best year yet.
  • Six of the top eight on the list are pitchers and only two of those are going to be on the 2011 roster while the others are all already in advanced levels of the minor leagues.

Remember, this deep list gets an enrichment of 12 of the first 89 draft picks in this coming draft. The future is indeed bright!
